Senate Ball / Bal au Sénat
Are these people, gathered in the Senate Chamber during an 1896 costume ball, asking YOU something? What brings YOU to Ottawa's history? Will YOU find yourself in a photo someday that others will want to study? Working with the Friends of the City Archives, you too are shaping the story of Ottawa and how those in the future will be able to enjoy it. [CA 0190]

Rotary Club / Club Rotary
Organizations such as the Rotary Club, whose members gathered at the Ottawa Dairy Farm in 1916, didn't know that the City of Ottawa Archives would later be interested in the story of their group and its work. Do you belong to a service organization or club in Ottawa that would like a home for its history? Give us a call! [CA 15270]

Railway Terminal / Gare centrale
By documenting Ottawa's changing landscape, our City Archives remind us how the pace of life in Ottawa has evolved. The horse-drawn taxis seen here, outside Union Station as it took shape in 1911, once served trains that spewed their soot and smoke across downtown Ottawa. [CA 1766]

Connaught Place / Place Connaught
Have any ideas for the Friends of the City Archives? Want to get involved? Send us an e-mail with your interests and suggestions. It's a lot easier than sending a telegram by bicycle messenger, like the one in the foreground of this 1926 photo of downtown Ottawa! The view is from Connaught Place (now Confederation Square) looking eastward toward Rideau Street. [CA 182340]
[CA 182340]

Troops leaving / Soldats avant de partir
What became of the troops we see here, marching past Lansdowne Park and off to war in 1914? In many cases, the records we use to find out about soldiers like these have been donated to the City Archives. What interesting finds are in your attic? [CA 0200]
