Special Projects Trust Fund

The collections of the City of Ottawa Archives are a rich reflection of Ottawa’s colourful history. The acquisition, study and preservation of these holdings often require attention that only dedicated funding makes possible. That’s why the Friends of the City of Ottawa Archives (FCOA) established its Trust Fund, permitting donors to receive City of Ottawa tax receipts while directly supporting much-needed intervention to protect our Archives holdings.

Donors watch their dollars at work in fascinating projects. Already the Fund has made it possible to restore several books of Council proceedings linked to Ottawa’s early development, dating back to the 1830s. The Fund is now supporting the restoration of a large portrait of Queen Victoria commissioned by the City in 1890.

Accounting for the Fund is supervised by the City Treasurer’s staff. Projects are selected by the Friends’ Board of Directors in collaboration with the City Archivist and staff, as well as experienced outside professionals.

Our Photo Heritage

Are these people, gathered in the Senate Chamber during an 1896 costume ball, asking YOU something? What brings YOU to Ottawa's history? Will YOU find yourself in a photo someday that others will want to study? Working with the Friends of the City Archives, you too are shaping the story of Ottawa and how those in the future will be able to enjoy it. [CA 0190]
